Halloween celebrations

Halloween celebrations will be everywhere this coming weekend. At UCCC, we will have our annual parade on Friday, October 29th. Weather permitting, we will parade outside.  (In the event of bad weather, we parade in the gallery.) The parade generally starts around 9:15 or a little later. Children may come in costume (optional), but they should have appropriate clothing for the day. No weapons, please. Masks are difficult for children – make up is better if necessary. Please read the article from The Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood included in our October newsletter (pdf) which, while long, includes thoughtful information for talking with very young children about the holiday.

Each of the children will be bringing home a pumpkin this week. These are pie pumpkins and can be used for cooking if you choose. To make pumpkin puree:

  1. Cut the pumpkin in half and bake cut side down covered with foil at 375 degrees for about 90 minutes or until tender.
  2. Cool and scoop out flesh and puree; it is ready to use.
