UCCC teacher to hike 30 miles in one day

Kara Kirchherr, an infant-toddler teacher in the Moonbeams room for 5 years, has spent that last 2 months training for something BIG! On October 13th, she will be hiking 30 miles in one day on the Tecumseh Trail in Indiana. To train, she has been cross-training with kayaking and walking, not to mention hiking every weekend since she signed up! Kara started out small, pushing herself slowly up to the 25 miles she hiked on September 30th, in preparation for her big day. Kara talks about her walks with her students, takes pictures on the trail of hikers, animals, and plants, and shares them with her classroom.
Why is she doing this? Kara has challenged herself to walk 30 miles in one day, all to help raise $2,500 for pediatric cancer research through the CureSearch for Children’s Cancer foundation. With nearly 13,500 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year, this was a cause Kara couldn’t pass up. CureSearch raises funds for collaborative research conducted at more than 180 hospitals across the nation, including St. Louis area hospitals.
Stop in the Moonbeam room and ask Kara about her hiking, or wish her good luck on the big day! She will also be continuing to raise money towards her $2,500 goal through November, so keep an eye out for restaurant flyer fundraisers at Noodles & Company, Orange Leaf Fro-Yo, and others!
