Down on the UCCC Ranch [summer camp plans]

Children will explore the life of a cowboy and his horse through traditional songs, large motor movements, stories, and more.

Attached you will find the final lesson plan of the summer. I know I can't wait to mosey on down to the ranch this next week. Please, "Don't Fence (Your Excitement) In" (I could not resist!) and keep your energy up. Rashaan and I have been talking about how wonderful this summer has been and it has been because of you and your tireless energy and enthusiasm. Please don't let the dog days of summer get you.

Next week, LeBrell's Barnyard Buddies will visit on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 am. They always love to visit our school and usually comment on how respectful and caring our children and teachers are to not only the animals but to each other. They will once again be stationed up at Metcalf Park, at the top of the hill. You are invited to bring your class to visit with the animals at your time. You can stay as long as your children need, but please be respectful of the other classes who also want to visit. The scheduled start times will be as follows:

Infants and Toddlers:  9:30 am
Starbursts and Comets:  9:40 am
Big Dippers:  9:50 am
Shooting Stars:  10:00 am
Supernovas:  10:10 am
Superstars:  10:15 am
Horizons:  10:20 am

We will also be hosting a Chuckwagon Lunch on Friday. Details will be coming soon to the classrooms.

Horizons Room

Science/Sensory:

Bugs and farm animals will be the focus of study during the ranch theme. Shovels, buckets and, jars will be given to the children to search, capture, and learn about bugs under and above the earth. Also, farm and ranch animal skins as well as the diagrams of their anatomy will be displayed. In addition, their diets will be discussed. Children will learn why these animals are important to humans.

Dramatic Role Play:

Shooting Stars will provide items like boxes and chairs to create a ranch with covered wagons, horses and trains. We will use paper bags to make cow girl and boy/girl vests and we will add cow boy/girl boots and other clothing….etc.

Art and Construction:

The Comets will create a barn with all of the fix’ins (fixings). We will also create and decorate animal mask and cowboy hats. Lastly we will build small ranches using Lincoln logs.
